Wicca vs. "WitchCraft" yes, i gave the subject of Wicca its own section, cuz i want to draw attention to it. Wicca, my religion, is something i'm very feverant about. the reason i chose to write a little about it is because my boyfriend has no religion. he doesn't believe that there is a higher power, and religion plays no role in his life... and so ;) he picks on me for it, for having my own holidays, and praying, and wanting to create an altar. i don't mind much, really. it's actually kinda fun, cuz while he's ranting away, i'm teaching him about Wicca... about the different holidays, and the God and Goddess - and i'm doing my part, as a Wiccan, to teach the public about our religion so they're not afraid to ask questions, or have pre-conceived notions of what a "witch" should be. Wicca is seen as something dark, and something evil - and don't think i'm not going to blame this on the media. lookit Snow White! the Blair Witch Prject! granted, BW wasn't so much about the witch as it was about that guy who killed the kids, but still... there was still bad publicity to Wicca... and there's dozens (hundreds?) of other examples. Wicca is seen as a devil-worshipping religion, where innocent teenagers are dragged into a cult, kill goats for their blood, and sell their souls to the Devil. HA, i think not. when practicing Wicca, the Wiccan believes in more than one deity, usually believing the Goddess is higher than the God (though not always, they are seen as equal partners as well). we strive to attain a self-perfection of being one with the Earth, and doing what we can to protect it and nurture it. we believe that everything is alive, everything feels and breathes, and we do our best not to cause harm to others, or ourselves ("An It Harm None, Do What Thou Wilt." - the Wiccan Rede) *i dunno, i'm not really in a ranting mood right now - i'll add more soon. |
